A Drop in Spirit

The Gold Team just left. Josiah's urine output dropped. That means he's really not getting enough milk. More confirmation that I'm losing my milk supply. How is this happening and why? I'm working hard to get my milk to come back, but I pump less and less each time. What am I doing wrong?

Hmmm. Maybe this is a perimenopausal change?

Have you tried the time-honored chestnut about drinking a beer? I don't know where this fits in with your beliefs but thought I would throw it out there.

If you end up on Reglan, be prepared to gush. I've heard that it's a very common experience. I suppose that would almost be a comfort at this point, though!

Has your son been evaluated for a latching difficulty such as tongue-tie? I'm wondering if his latch could have been imperfect and this had a subtle effect on your supply over time. Again, just a thought.

I hope the best for you, whatever it may be. I'm so grateful to hear that your son is not testing positive for any metabolic problems--that is a definite bright spot.

I have heard that Domperidone is better than reglan because it causes fewer side effects. Dr. Jack Newman says you can take 30mg 3X a day and in some situations 40mg 4X a day. Here is the link:

thanks celeste and amelia,
I'm already taking the dom, and have a script for the reglan. I'll try the beer (its not contrary to my 'beliefs' just my taste buds).

Still keeping you in my prayers. Beer, medication, whatever it takes to keep the baby healthy (and on the breast!)
